We succeeded in the development of the EIP punch, a technology that allows tableting without magnesium stearate (St-Mg), by collaboration with Machine Parts Co., Ltd. and completed application of the patent. During the tableting process, St-Mg improves fluidity of medicine powder by combining with the medicine powder. In addition, St-Mg prevents adhesion of the medicine powder to the punch. However, St-Mg has harmful influences such as delaying disintegration times of tablets and decreasing drug absorption. With the development of the EIP punch, tableting of medicine products without such harmful influence has become possible. We offer the MH punch which we are already selling as before.
Production method of EIP punch

EIP punch allows tableting without St-Mg
During the tableting process, use of St-Mg as lubricant was traditionally believed absolutely necessary to avoid sticking of tablet powder to the punch. We experimented with Ibuprofen (IBU) which is well known to adhere to tablet punches. The results of our experiments revealed that the newly developed EIP punch allows tableting without St-Mg.
